“For My thoughts are not your thoughts,
and your ways are not My ways. This is the
Lord’s declaration.” Isaiah 55:8
Reading this verse prompted the question
just how does God think? In what ways does
He think differently?
My first thought is He thinks with an eternal
perspective. He sent Jesus with the mission
to offer eternal life to all who would believe
in Him.
“For God so loved the world in this way: He
gave His one and only Son, so that everyone
who believes in Him will not perish but have
eternal life.” John 3:16
The Apostle Paul also testified to having an
eternal perspective. Writing to the
Philippians from his imprisonment in Rome,
realizing his time was short he wrote:
Forgetting what is behind and reaching
forward to what is ahead, I pursue as my
goal the prize promised by God’s heavenly
call in Christ Jesus. Phil 3:13-14
In his letter to the Corinthians, he wrote:
“For we know that if our earthly tent we live
in is destroyed, we have a building from
God, an eternal dwelling in the heavens, not
made with human hands.” 2 Cor 5:1
Paul’s view of others was with their eternity
in mind: “From now on then, we do not
know anyone from a worldly perspective.”
2 Cor 5:16
In the eyes of Paul everyone is seen with an
eternal perspective. Are they destined for
eternity with the Lord or forever banished to
total darkness? His lifelong pursuit was to
be “all things to all people, so that I may by
every possible means save some.”1 Cor 9:22
God has always had His thoughts on
eternity. Jesus willingly went to the cross to
provide for our eternity. Paul made it his life
goal to lead others into eternity.
Do we catch a glimpse of how far from
God’s thoughts are our thoughts? Or His
ways from our ways? Could it be time for us
to make a priority shift?
Looking at the course of this world, the
eternal perspective gets more inviting by the
hour.
Thank you, Lord God, for the gift of eternal
life. Help us be about the mission of leading
others to receive it.
Blessed by you….Bro. Sherman
