“I fear no danger, for You are with me.”
Psalm 23:4
This is a truth we know intuitively but we
really don’t live. There is a reason Jesus
began His ministry preaching “the Kingdom
of heaven has come near.” As the Son of
God, God was walking in the midst of His
people. His people did not realize it. Even
today most think of God being in heaven,
looking down on us from above. Yet, from
the beginning of the Gospel story they called
Him Immanuel which means “God is with
us.”
Can you grasp it? God with us. The One
who created the universe, called the earth,
moon and stars into existence is with us. Not
just at Christmas and Easter. He is always
with us. He has promised to never leave us.
The theological term is omnipresent: God is
present everywhere simultaneously. Don’t
be concerned about how this is possible.
This is a truth we must accept by faith. God
is with you. God is also with me. Always.
We are never alone. Yes…even when we
sin, He is near. Nothing is hidden from His
sight.
What are the implications of this truth? No
matter what we are experiencing, a joyful
time or a painful one, we are not alone
regardless how we feel. By faith we can
assure ourselves God stands with us. “If God
is for us, who is against us?” Romans 8:31
Therefore, given this promise we need not
fear. Think of it this way, if you could take
your favorite superhero (Batman, Superman,
Mighty Mouse) with you everywhere you
went, would you worry? About anything?!
Well guess what, you have something much
greater than any superhero with you always.
You have nothing to fear.
This is the testimony of the psalmist. From
personal experience, King David, the once a
shepherd boy, knew first-hand the promise
of God. Read the verse again carefully:
“I fear no danger, for You are with me.”
Take a moment to repeat this verse to
yourself several times. Accept this truth.
Take it to heart. The next time you break out
into a sweat, your heart begins beating fast
and anxiousness sets in, repeat this verse to
yourself. Be assured, you are not alone. God
is near.
The Lord is our strength and shield.
Blessed by you….Bro. Sherman
