“Consider the sower who went out to sow.” Matthew 13:3
Do we wake up each day and begin thinking about what we would like to do or need to accomplish?
Jesus taught His disciples to pray:
“Our Father in Heaven, Your name be
honored as holy. Your kingdom come,
your will be done.” Matthew 6:9-10
Jesus further taught His disciples: “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness.” Matthew 6:33
Therefore, as God’s children, as Christ followers, what should be first on our daily agenda? Not what we desire but what God has planned for our lives. That may not be as difficult as it seems.
There is much that needs to be done in our homes with things like laundry, cooking, cleaning, eating and (maybe) exercise for those who are not allergic! Many have a reminder note by their exit door with this message: “You are now entering your mission field!” This is a simple reminder of the command of Christ to be the salt of the earth and the light of the world wherever we go!
What if like the sower who went out to sow, that became our primary agenda? What if our daily focus was fulfilling God’s purpose for our lives and fulfilling our own needs was secondary? What if watching for God, taking advantage of divine appointments took precedence over everything we do?
Therefore, we would still be going to do our banking. We would still be going to the grocery store, to the doctor or the barber. But our focus would be on touching the lives of the people we meet everywhere we go. The teller at the bank, the cashier at the store, the person waiting in line with us, our doctor, etc. You get the picture. We are to fulfill our calling to make a difference by sharing the love of Christ and the joy of the Lord wherever we go.
As I stood in an unusually long line at the bank, the lady who came up behind me was obviously frustrated with the prospect of needless waiting. Seeing her frustration and turning to her smiling excitedly I said, “Cheer up! This is the express lane!” That prompted an extended conversation that made our wait go much more quickly! And it made an impact for others in line with us!
Making a difference wherever we go is not so difficult. It only takes making our primary mission sowing seeds, lighting our world and seeking God’s kingdom first!
Go therefore, and sow!
Blessed by you… Bro. Sherman
