“But be doers of the word and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.”      James 1:22

If your understanding of salvation is real, you will want to show the Lord just how much you value your life in Him. Not to earn your gift of life but to affirm your love and appreciation for what He did for you.

“Whatever you do, in word or in deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.”                                                                                        Colossians 3:17

“He died for all so that those who live should no longer live for themselves, but for the One who died for them and was raised.”                                                                                                         2 Cor 5:15

How does one live for Christ? By being doer of the word: obeying the commands of Christ! A Pharisee, an expert in the law, once asked Jesus, “Which command in the law is the greatest?”

Jesus replied, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and most important command. The second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets depend on these two commands.”     Matthew 22:36-40

How then do we demonstrate our love of God? One of the best ways is to become a part of His family, the church. We spend time with God in worship, prayer, Bible study, fellowship with other believers, and in service and ministry. We support the mission of the church with our time, talent, and finances. This the first and most significant way but the second way is also important: We love others.

We love others the way Jesus loves us. With empathy, compassion, acceptance, encouragement, forgiveness, and ministry. We fulfill our mission and purpose for life when we are the hands and feet of Christ in our part of the world.

Simply put, if the Spirit of Christ is truly in us, we will have a desire to serve Him with gladness. “For just as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead.”                      James 2:26

“But be doers of the word and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.”

A living faith demonstrates a love of God and love for others. Don’t think your salvation is real if neither of these is true for your life. Don’t be deceived….

“For you are saved by grace through faith, and this is not from yourselves; it is God’s gift – not from works, so that no one can boast.”                                                                             Ephesians 2:8-9

Blessed by you… Bro. Sherman
