“My food is to do the will of Him who sent me and to finish His work.”        John 4:34

The disciples of Jesus left him resting at the well in Sychar while they went to buy food. At least that is what they thought. Later they may have realized why he sent all twelve (?) to buy food. Jesus may have needed a rest but the real reason for the time at the well was a divine appointment. It was important for this ministry that the disciples would not be present. Breaking many social barriers, customs and traditions was necessary to reach the heart of this despised woman.

The disciples returned with food about the time Jesus had opened the heart of the lost. Surprised by his lack of interest in the food, they wondered did someone else bring him something? (He let the fries get cold!)  They expected him to eat but he explained:

“My food is to do the will of Him who sent me and to finish His work.”

What is it that motivates you? What drives you to miss a meal, skip a meeting, ignore a call, or veer off the schedule? The game? The news? Grandkids? Stock market? Instagram? Texts? E-mails? Tik-Tok?

What keeps you going when the days are long, when the body aches, the mind is fading, and your energy is taxed?

At the end of the day will we be able to say I am proud of what I accomplished? I’m glad I did it! Hope so, one more day of life spent…was it worth it?

“For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each may be repaid for what he has done in the body whether good of evil.”                                                                               2 Cor 5:10

Someday there will be an accounting for  what we have done with what we have been given. Has our time, our talents, our material blessings been used for God’s glory and mission or for our own needs and desires?

“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”                                              Mathew 6:21

“Well done, good and faithful servant! You were faithful over a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Share your master’s joy.”                                                                       Mattheew 25:21

Isn’t this what we are hoping to hear? But will we?…

Imagine yourself standing before the Lord…

Blessed by you… Bro. Sherman
