“The harvest is abundant, but the workers
are few.” Matthew 9:37
It may be hard to believe but there was a
time when I did not know that corn did not
originate in a can. I was with some friends
walking by a corn field and someone said,
look at that corn! It was near harvest time.
My word was “Really?!” Is that corn?
Can you imagine it? A field of corn ripe for
harvest. Rows and rows of corn ready for
the picking but not enough workers to bring
in the crop. Even modern-day equipment
still requires someone to man it. At least for
now. It would be a scary time for a farmer to
have a ready-to-be-picked crop and no one
to help bring it in!
Spiritually, that is the situation. Same today
as it was when Jesus walked the earth. The
harvest is ready but there are not enough
workers working in the fields. There are
plenty of workers, that’s not the issue. It’s
that they are not all working at the harvest.
Some are still preparing to work. Some still
studying the work. Many still not motivated
to work. Still others haven’t grasped the
need for workers in the field. Worse yet,
some think they are doing the work. If that
were true, where is the harvest?
God bless the one who recognized the
harvest and picked me. My life has never
been the same. All it took was simple words:
You need God in your life. She said it more
than once. Got me thinking about it. Wonder
what she means? Then the opportunity to go
to church opened up and prayers were
answered. I was in church listening to
sermons (while sitting next to a pretty girl!)
“The harvest is abundant, but the workers
are few!”
The work is not as hard as we make it. Who
do you know is struggling with life issues?
Family, finances, morals, health, depression,
addiction, and a host of other issues like
gender or sexual orientation? How hard is it
to simply say “You need God in your life.”
Maybe just what they need to start them
thinking, then asking questions. You will
know the answer: Let me call my deacon!
Hey, whatever it takes to get more workers
into the harvest. Here is your first step to
getting personally involved:
Therefore, pray to the Lord of the harvest to
send out workers into His harvest. (Vs 38)
Please Lord, help me become more
intentionally involved in the daily harvest.
Blessed by you….Bro. Sherman
