“And I will dwell in the house of the Lord
all the days that I live.” Psalm 23:6
All of my three sons at one time or another
have said how nice it would be to go back to
the days of being a kid. When there were no
worries about paying bills, a place to live,
food to eat or being alone. Food, clothing,
and shelter were all provided. As children
we took these things for granted. Not
realizing what a gift and blessing these
provisions were.
In a similar way this 23 rd Psalm speaks
throughout of the Lord’s constant provision.
Three verses start with “I.”
“I have what I need.”
“I will fear no evil.” (danger).
“I will dwell in the house of the Lord.”
Each statement testifies to ways God has
proved His reliability as the Good Shepherd.
He is the God of provision: He provides all
of our needs. Just as He met every need of
the Israelites for forty years in the
wilderness, He meets every need in our lives
as well.
Our Lord is the God of protection. In times
of fear, He provides us with comfort
knowing He is aware of our situation and is
always near. Whatever the circumstances,
He stands with us.
Though many think of heaven with the
emphasis on Eternal Life. But real gift of
our heavenly home is living with our
Heavenly Father forever. He is the God of
presence. We are assured of a place not only
in heaven but in the Father’s House! How
much more personal and intimate can it get?
We get the King’s food, the best of the best
of everything as His children! Oh, how nice
it will be to be a kid again.
Read through Psalm 23 again. Slowly.
Realize the Psalmist is writing from an
earthly perspective. This Good Shepherd
was more than gracious in this life. How
much greater will it be in the next life?
Can you read the first verse truthfully and
say, “The Lord is MY shepherd?” Have you
made your peace with God by dying to self
and devoting your life to His will and
purpose? It only takes a moment to redirect
your life to commit to God. Offer a simple
prayer: Lord, I know my waywardness. I
want to receive you as my shepherd, to lead,
guide and direct my life. Show me the way to
You. Guide me in your truth and teach me.
Help me make you Lord of every aspect of
my life. In Jesus name, Amen.
If you will make this prayer sincerely from
your heart, anticipate a peace that comes
from God through His Holy Spirit. It is His
gift for your faithful prayer.
Blessed to be one of His children,
….Bro. Sherman
