“He restores my soul.” Psalm 23:3

At this point it may be best to remind
ourselves the context of these words. We’ve
learned the Lord cares for us as a true
shepherd cares for his sheep. That He takes
care of every need, makes sure we take time
to rest, that we spend quality time with Him.
We are reminded we are in an intimate
loving relationship. With Him at our side
constantly we know His sincere love will
always provide what is best for us. He calms
every fear. His faithful presence guides us
through times of uncertainty. When we are
down because of life’s challenges, He
knows just what we need. He restores our
soul.

What does that mean? Like Peter who
walked on water as long as his eyes were on
Jesus but began to sink as the wind and
waves drew his attention, we too can
become worldly focused. Wars, natural
disasters, human suffering, political chaos,
relationship turmoil, and personal struggles
can all become consuming. They stand like
mountains before us. Our burdens become
too much for us. In our distress we lose sight
of who we are and carry loads we were
never intended to carry. Most of our worries
are weights we have no control over. These
consuming issues are for our faithful
Shepherd to handle. He comes carefully into
our lives to remind us of whose we are. His
flock, His sheep, under His protective care.
He reminds us how much we are loved.

Like the nucleus of an atom, our soul is the
very core of who we are. It is the essence of
what makes us uniquely us. It is our DNA,
every aspect and characteristic that defines
us. Our soul is what is carried to heaven
when our physical bodies wear out. In
heaven we will be known by our soul, our
spiritual body.

The Lord, our caring Shepherd restores our
soul. He reminds us how special we are.
How much we can trust is His faithful care
and have no fear no matter what challenges
comes our way. He is our refuge and
strength in times of trouble. Psalm 46:1
When the world seems to come crashing in.
When the weight of burdens becomes too
great. When your struggles overwhelm you,
remember you are not alone. Your Shepherd
is near and available. He is still in control of
all things. He is your protector and provider.
He who has been faithful in the past will be
faithful now and in the future. You can trust
in Him. He is the reason the Apostle Paul
could say: “I can do all things, through
Christ who gives me strength.” Phil 4:13
Keep your eyes on the Shepherd and have
no fear that overwhelms you. Let Him
handle the burdens. He can do it!

Blessed by you…Bro. Sherman
