“They devoted themselves to the apostles
teaching, to the fellowship, to the breaking
of bread, and to prayer.” Acts 2:42
We all have priorities. At least things we
have made priorities in that we do them
every day either intentionally or habitually.
It is important to reflect from time to time
and ask ourselves is this activity producing
the result that I had hoped for or expected?
How is what I am doing affecting my
health? My emotions? My attitude? My
work? My relationships? My spirit? Is it
helping or hurting? Is there something I
need to change?
Three thousand people responded to Peter’s
sermon accepting Jesus as their Lord and
Savior. They were baptized and their lives
were forever changed. They became devoted
to working on their spiritual lives. Which
means they reorganized their priorities. They
made significant changes in their daily
routine. Some habits had to be given up.
Four new activities became daily priorities:
the apostles teaching, fellowship, breaking
of bread, and prayer. Learning how to be a
disciple of Jesus, fellowship with other
followers, sharing meals including the
Lord’s Supper, and private and corporate
prayer became new daily habits. These new
habits, these new priorities in their daily
lives produced some amazing results!
Everyone was filled with awe.
I believe that meant they saw God working
in their lives and the lives of others.
Signs and wonders were being performed by
the apostles. God honored their devotion.
They all shared their resources, helping each
meet needs throughout the fellowship. They
sold land and homes to support the ministry.
They met daily in the temple and in homes
for prayer, fellowship, and encouragement.
As a result of these simple life changes, they
were experiencing the joy of the Lord. They
often gave testimonies and praised God with
cheerful hearts.
And people noticed the changes. Their
neighbors, their families, and their friends
saw the difference God had made in their
lives. People were drawn to them. People
were added to their number daily.
People will search for happiness and
contentment through the material world. It is
the spiritual aspect of life they are missing.
We were created to be in fellowship with
God. Nothing else will ever satisfy our need.
Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the
life!” And He is. Accept Him as God’s gift
and find true life. Make it a priority.
Blessed by you…Bro. Sherman
