“I will be with you, just as I was with
Moses. I will never leave you or abandon
you.” Joshua 1:5

Moses had laid his hands on his assistant
Joshua passing on to him the role as leader
of the nation of Israel and he was filled with
the Spirit of wisdom. But the burden of
leading a nation must have been great. God
spoke these encouraging words (above) to
Joshua to remind him and reassure him of
His constant presence, power, and provision.
What a gift and blessing of faith and power
those words must have provided Joshua as
the new leader.

Changing leadership in any organization has
many challenges. It can strike fear in the
hearts of some members and excitement in
the hearts of others. Fear is fed by the
unknown, the uncertainty of what changes
are coming. Excitement is nurtured by faith
in the living God who has promised to never
leave us or abandon us. That knowledge
gives way to optimism and hope for a bright
future. An anticipation of the blessings of
God.

My first point of excitement came from a
phone call telling me about a church who
had rebuilt in a small town north of
Brighton. My second dose of excitement
came when Christy and I drove through
Medora for the first time and saw this
amazing structure in such a small
community. We were struck by the size and

beauty of it! God is at work here we
thought!

Then in His providence God allowed me the
blessing of becoming your interim pastor.
What joy and excitement I experienced as I
came to know a loving people, devoted to
the Lord, and seeking to serve Him in this
community and beyond. You have a
kingdom focus and willingness to serve the
Lord in new ways. I have been eternally
blessed to be a part of God’s work in your
lives and in your hearts.

There is no question in my mind and heart
that God is truly at work at Mt. Pleasant
Baptist Church. What He has already done
through this 190-year-old church will keep
you focused on what He is about to do in the
coming years. Keep your focus on Him
because He has promised….
“I will be with you, just as I was with
Moses. I will never leave you or abandon
you.”

Watch for God! He is at work in your midst!
Blessed by you….Bro. Sherman
