My Thoughts of Proverbs 4:
For much of the 4th Chapter of Proverbs, Solomon talks of wisdom and judgement. But, for me it was verse 23 that spoke to my heart today: Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life. The word guard in Hebrew is a military term and it means to stand watch, like a sentry.
I think what Solomon is saying, is be careful of what you let into your heart because it guides your actions. Right now, there is a lot of fear in our country; fear of Covid-19, economic fear, and fear of isolation. God does not intend for us to live in fear nor react with panic.
Paul addressed how we can guard our hearts in his letter to the Philippians. Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. 7 Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. (Phil. 4:5-6)
My Prayer:
Holy Heavenly Father:
Your Word tells us You don’t want us to be fearful or live in fear. So we asking You to end this pandemic and end the lockdown.
Lord, we pray that You give our leaders at all levels, wisdom and sound judgement.
Father God, we pray as a church that you teach us wisdom’s ways and lead us in straight paths. (v.11). Even now during this time of “shelter-in-place” show us how to minister to our community during this time of crisis. Father, we grow restless in isolation and economic shutdown. Make us mindful that the world watches how we act and what we say, especially on social media. Give us endurance for Your glory. Give us opportunities in the midst of adversity to share the Hope we have.
Lord, I pray for revival in my church and in the North American church. Lord, I pray that you convict us how much we have come to depend on programs and failed to follow where you have led us. Lord, reignite within us a passion for the gospel. Lord, revive the church so another Great Awakening sweeps our land. Give each of us an opportunity to have a gospel conversation with someone who needs to hear the Hope we have.
I pray these things in Jesus name. Amen.
