My Thoughts on Proverbs 18:
In Chapter 18 verse 21 really jumped out at me today: The tongue can bring death or life; those who love to talk will reap the consequences. I wonder if we really understand the power of our words. Sometimes the really do bring death or life. In some of my chaplain training real life examples were used were a child was cyberbullied and committed suicide. Other examples proved where just a kind word was enough to talk someone off the ledge. In a spiritual sense too our words reap consequence to we bring words of the gospel to our unbelieving friends or do we just keep our mouths shut and let them go to hell?
My Prayer:
Holy Father:
As I read verse 8: Rumors are dainty morsels that sink deep into one’s heart. It reminds me that so many disheartening rumors have come out of this pandemic. Lord, I read verse 2 and think of the American media: Fools have no interest in understanding; they only want to air their own opinions. I pray the media report facts not political narrative. So much misinformation comes out we don’t what to believe, Lord. We ask that You just end this pandemic.
Lord, I read verse 14: The human spirit can endure a sick body, but who can bear a crushed spirit? And, I pray for my friends and family who becoming weary in spirit due isolation and shelter-in-place orders. I just ask that You give them Your presence and Your peace.
I read verse 3: Doing wrong leads to disgrace, and scandalous behavior brings contempt, and it prompts me to pray for the leaders of my country, state and locally that they would do the right thing in regards to the shutdown and how to handle the pandemic as well as the economic downturn.
Verse 10: The name of the Lord is a strong fortress; the godly run to him and are safe, prompts me to pray for my church. That they run to You God during this time of crisis. I pray that their faith be strength during this time of crisis.
And, lastly, Lord, I pray for those who don’t have a relationship with You. I ask that You open their hearts to the gospel. I ask that You create opportunities for Christians they may know to boldly share the gospel with them.
I pray all these things in Jesus name. Amen.
