Pastor’s Pages 11/13/22

November 13, 2022 By Sherman Smith Leave a Comment

“You will receive power when the Holy
Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be
My witnesses both in Jerusalem and in all
Judea, Samaria, and as far as the remotest
part of the earth.” Acts 1:8

That’s it! I quit! I’m quitting cold turkey!
No more griping, complaining, and no more
negative talk. How can I keep saying God is
good one moment and grumble about the
price of gas the next? If I truly am an eternal
optimist (I have B+ blood after all!), why do
I sound like a pessimist most of the time?
It’s time to change my perspective. Satan,
you are on your own from now on! I’m not
going to highlight anything you are doing in
this world. I’m taking my own advice! I’m
Watching for God. From now on, He gets
the glory! The words of Jesus have me
under conviction:

“You shall be MY witnesses!”
God IS good! At this time one year ago, I
doubted my wife would live till Christmas.
This year it looks like she will live for
several more Christmases. God is gracious!
Last year I retired for my own health issues.
This year God has graced me with good
health and gifted me with another church
pastorate, with a wonderful, loving
congregation. God is great!

His word is true: “(He) is able to do far

more abundantly beyond all that we ask or
think.” Ephesians 3:20
Jesus said, “Seek, and you will find.” (Mt.
7:7) If you look for negatives you will find
them. But the opposite is also true! If you
look for positives, you will find things to
praise God for! Is it any wonder the
Apostle Paul admonished his readers:
“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is
true, whatever is honorable, whatever is
right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely,
whatever is commendable, if there is any
excellence and if anything, worthy of praise,
think about these things.” Philippians 4:8
Today I am committed to put Paul’s advice
into practice. My old self wants to gripe
about the price of gas going up after the
election. But my NEW self tells me to be
thankful there is gas to be bought! (I am
reminded of gas shortages)

Thank you, Lord for the gift of your Holy
Spirit who reminded me this morning how
blessed I am to live in the greatest country
in the world. Who also reminded me to be
your witness to a lost and confused world.
Help me Lord, to be the salt to the earth and
the light to the world you called me to be.
Please forgive me for losing my
perspective. You are the greatest!

Thank you for Your Son Jesus…
….Bro. Sherman
