“But the one who looks intently into the perfect law of freedom and perseveres in it and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer who works – this person will be blessed in what he does.”                                                                                                                              James 1:25

When we learned we needed to obtain an occupancy permit in selling our house, we prayed for an inspector who would be a blessing. God answered our prayer with a young man was not only a Christian but an excited one. He spent more time giving testimony of what the Lord had done and is doing in his life than he did explaining what needed to be done to prepare the house for the next occupant. We connected with our new friend almost as soon as he entered the house. The changes that need to be done were rather extensive, but God buffered that news by reminding us of His presence.

Our inspector personified exactly what James is saying in the passage above. Life provides lots of distractions but in the midst of it all we must constantly remind ourselves we are on mission 24/7. We work, we play, we care for the needs of the family, and our days are full of things that need to be done. But with all of that activity we are to be reminded we are missionaries for Christ. We are ambassadors every minute of every day. That is why it is called the Christian life. Paul wrote: “And whatever you do, in word or in deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.”      Col 3:17

Moses speaking to the Israelites before they crossed over into the Promised Land said:

“These words that I am giving you today are to be in your heart. Repeat them to your children. Talk about them when you sit in your house and when you walk along the road, when you lie down, and when you get up. Bind them as a sign on your hand and let them be a symbol on your forehead.”                                                                                                                              Deuteronomy 5:6

Jesus last words before He ascended into heaven said: “You will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”                                                                    Acts 1:8

Whatever we are doing, wherever we are going, let us keep in focus a missionary mindset, being effective doers and not forgetful hearers.

Thank you, Lord, for sending your ambassador to help us stay focused on serving you every moment of every day.

Blessed by you….Bro. Sherman
