“Only goodness and faithful love will
pursue me all the days of my life.”
Psalm 23:5
Living in a world where distrust and
skepticism are commonplace, it is refreshing
to hear someone speak confidently of
goodness and love. Only with God can we
be assured of a sincere concern for our best
interests. He will always do what is most
beneficial for us. Though the experience
may include suffering, He intends for our
faith to grow through it. Even Jesus learned
through suffering: “Although He was a Son,
He learned obedience from things which He
suffered.” Hebrews 5:8
The message here is not that we will never
experience trials or hardships in this life but
rather that the “Good Shepherd” will always
have good intended for us. He can be trusted
in all things. No matter what we are going
through God is with us, knows our situation,
and will demonstrate His love. It may
include His discipline: “For whom the Lord
loves He disciplines.” Hebrews 12:6
Though we are often quick to quote the
words of Jesus: “I will never leave you or
forsake you.” Have we grasped the reality of
those words? Think of the word never. How
many times have we said I’ll never do that
again. And how faithful were we to keep
that promise? Yes, our intentions are good
but our follow through is not. But with God,
His never can be trusted. It is a reality.
In the same way we can trust the reality of
the Lord’s faithful goodness and love to be
with us all the days of our lives. The
opposite of never is always. God will always
be with us. God will always follow us. God
will always pursue us. Nothing can separate
us from His love. We can be assured that
His love will always be with us. “I have
loved you with an everlasting love.”
Jeremiah 31:3
The company I worked for had a “lifetime”
guarantee on many products until that
changed to “limited lifetime.” The company
had good intentions but could not maintain
their promise. That company no longer
exists. Be leery of a lifetime guarantee
promise. It’s only as good as the company.
With God we know He has always been and
will always be. He is the same yesterday,
today and tomorrow. He can be trusted. His
always is always. His never is never. His
love is forever. We need not fear or doubt.
Blessed by the assurance of His unfailing
goodness and love.…..Bro. Sherman
