“No foul language should come from your mouth, but only what is good for building up someone in need, so that it gives grace to those who hear.” Ephesians 4:29
Like it or not, we are to be different than others in the world. Speaking of the lost (Gentiles) Jesus said, “Don’t be like them.” (Mt 6:8)
He also emphasized, “You are the light of the world.” (Mt 5:14) We are to set the example for others to follow.
The apostle Peter wrote, “You are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation.” (1 Pet 2:9) We are God’s chosen people who represent Him, reflect Him, as His children in a world in desperate need of God.
The apostle Paul wrote, “Whatever you do, in word or in deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus.” (Col 3:17) We are to be the hands, the feet, and the person of Christ in our world, our area of influence. If we are going to fulfill our calling to be Christ ambassadors, the salt of the earth, this is our baseline, our starting point. We are to be in the world but not of the world. It is our calling to be set apart (holy) and distinctly different than the lost.
Many who claim to be Christ followers are oblivious to this truth. Either they have never been taught, or they simply have not connected their Sunday church life with their work/play life Monday – Saturday. The Christian life is not limited to the church worship service. Being Christlike is not a part-time ministry!
Let’s think about this. If we shop at the same stores, eat at the same restaurants, wear the same kinds of clothes, and drive the same kinds of vehicles, what is going to set us apart from the world? Doesn’t it all boil down to our words, our deeds, and our actions and attitude?
Because of the love of Christ, the forgiveness of sin, the grace, mercy and patience provided us by our Lord, we should be the ones who demonstrate patience, offer compliments, encouragement and smiles wherever we go. We should be the most accepting the least to complain. We are to be distinctly different than those of the world!
That means foul language should never come from your mouth, but only what is good for building up someone in need!
The best witness of a Christian is simple!
Just Be One!
Blessed by you… Bro. Sherman
