“Even when I go through the darkest
valley.” Psalm 23:4
Do you believe the older married couple that
says, “we’ve never had an argument?” My
first thought is do they communicate. Do
they talk with each other? I have always
thought living-happily-ever-after only
happened in the movies. My brother is a
little more realistic. His statement is: We
don’t argue, we have moments of intense
fellowship. That I understand.
Even Jesus said we would have struggles;
“In the world you have tribulation, but take
courage; I have overcome the world.”
John 16:33
Would we appreciate the good times, the
peaceful times as much if we didn’t have
trials now and then? We need not fear trials.
We take comfort in that we will not face
them alone. We have a caring, loving,
protecting shepherd who watches over us.
He will guide us through the tough times.
That is the key to the message here. We will
find ourselves in deep dark valleys from
time to time. Not to sit or stay but to walk
through. Trials will come. Tough times are a
part of life in this world. We are very naïve
if we think we can avoid them. But we have
the assurance we will not experience trials
alone. He will guide us through.
The Apostle Paul testified; “I have learned
to be content in whatever circumstances I
am…I can do all things through Him who
strengthens me.” Phil 4:11, 13
How great it is to have passed through a
dark valley knowing we made it through
because of His presence and provision. We
witnessed His hand at work in our lives. It
was unmistakable.
The check that came unexpectedly in the
mail two weeks before Christmas providing
presents for our children.
The release from a foreclosure our lawyer
had never seen this mortgage company do.
The promise of financial support from three
families when we thought we were entering
a dark valley all alone.
We have often been taken from the depths of
despair in a valley to the heights blessing in
the blinking of eye. God our ever-present
Shepherd has proven His faithfulness time
and time again. With each valley experience
our faith has grown exponentially.
Expect the trails and tribulations and watch
for God. He is with you!
Blessed by you….Bro. Sherman
