The Lord is my shepherd. Psalm 23:1

Sometimes the simplest statements have
profound truths. These five words are rich
with depth of meaning. The Lord is my
shepherd.

This favorite Psalm was written by King
David who as a shepherd boy had
experienced firsthand the power and
provision of the Lord. He gave God the
glory for the courage and strength he was
given to protect his sheep from the harm of
both a lion and a bear. The faith he
developed in the Lord as a shepherd boy
also empowered him to fearlessly face the
warrior Goliath.

How reassuring to realize the God of
Creation intervenes in lives of His people.
He who abundantly blessed a young
shepherd boy will also bless all who trust in
Him. If we are attentive, we will see the
hand of God working in our midst every
day. It may be something as simple as the
tweet of the birds reminding us of His
presence. Or the food on our plate reminding
us of His provision. At other times it’s the
phone call of a loved one that comes at the
precise moment. Living proof God is near.

Isn’t this what a shepherd does? He protects
his sheep. He cares for his sheep by leading
them to green pastures, to water, and places
of safety, providing for every need? He has
a deep love for the sheep and is willing to go
to great lengths to serve them. Jesus said, “I

am the good shepherd. The good shepherd
lays down his life for the sheep.”
John 10:11

David makes it clear, the Lord is his
shepherd, his overseer. The King of Kings,
the Lord of Lords, the One who created the
universe has proven His faithfulness to be
the God who is with us. We truly are never
alone. Our loving, caring, faithful Shepherd
is always near. In this we can have complete
confidence and trust.

God is our refuge and strength, our ever-
present help in times of trouble. Psalm 46:1
Watch for God. Don’t miss His presence. He
is with you!
Blessed by you…Bro. Sherman
