“And climbing out of the boat, Peter
started walking on the water and came
toward Jesus.” Matthew 14:29

Is fear keeping you from fulfilling a dream?
Do you have an inner desire to do something
you’ve put off just because you can’t
decide? Do you realize indecision is a
decision? Could others be holding you back?

One night the disciples were battling the
wind and waves, struggling to get across the
lake. When Jesus came walking on the
water, the disciples were gripped with fear.
Jesus reassured them, “Take courage! It is I.
Don’t be afraid.” Peter called out, “Lord, if
it’s you, command me to come to you on the
water.” Jesus said, “Come.”

Twelve disciples were in the boat. Only one
had the idea to get out of the boat to walk on
water with Jesus. Only one. Only he
experienced the miracle of walking with the
Lord on the water. To accomplish that Peter
had to leave the other eleven behind.
Walking on the water was not even a
thought for them. No one else has ever
walked on water. Was it worth the risk?

Until the time they saw Jesus the disciples
were struggling to stay in the boat. With
Jesus present, Peter was willing to exit, even
into the rough wind and waves when he
heard Jesus say “come.” Hearing the call of
the Lord will not mean we are entering a
ministry of smooth sailing. On the contrary,
Jesus said we would experience trouble.

He did also promise to never leave us or
forsake us in the midst of those troubles. He
promised to always be with us. We can trust
whatever He calls us to do, He will
empower us to do!

Peter walked on water and made his way
toward Jesus until he was overwhelmed by
the wind and waves. In his fear the scripture
reveals he “began to sink.” Here is another
miracle. Peter didn’t plunge into the depths
of the lake. When his faith waned, he began
to sink. In his desperation this disciple cried
out, “Lord, save me!” The Lord God, who is
always with us, reached out and took hold of
Peter. They went to the boat, got in, and
wind and waves ceased.

If you have sensed the call of God to do
something you have never done, be assured
it is okay to say, “Lord, if it’s YOU, help me
hear clearly Your call.” Don’t expect the
path to free and clear of all struggles. You
can trust however; Jesus will always be
close by to lend a helping hand. You will
never be alone. But to experience the
miracle of walking with God, you will have
to climb out of the boat.

Praying for the Lord to replace your fear
with faith.
Blessed by you….Bro. Sherman
