“See, the virgin will become pregnant and
give birth to a son, and they will name him
Immanuel, which is translated “God with
us!”” Matthew 1:23
Once upon a time (only 150 years ago),
travel from New York to Los Angeles would
take five weeks. (All by land only) Today
you can fly the same trip in nine hours.
The first telegraph (No audio or video)
between the same two cities occurred in
1861. (If you have to ask what’s a telegraph,
you will probably miss my point.)
Would you believe only one in thirteen
families owned a car in 1918? That’s just a
little over one hundred years ago.
Consider the changes this world has
undergone in just a few years! Then reread
the verse above written by the prophet Isaiah
seven hundred years before Christ Jesus was
born! Are you feeling a sense of awe yet?
That same wave of wonder happened to me
yesterday when I was telling my eighteen-
year-old grandson about a man I met whose
CB radio handle was Captain Kirk. (My
handle was Captain Crunch) I thought he’d
be amused. Instead, he asked, “What’s a CB
radio?” He saw wonder all over my face.
Seven hundred years. Awe and wonder yet?
Once upon a time the gods were only in the
heavens and man searched for ways to
please them. Then the One true God, in His
infinite mercy and grace, sent His One and
only Son from heaven to earth to reveal
Himself. The scriptures demonstrate, “The
Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the
exact expression of His nature.” Hebrews 1:3
Jesus said it a little more simply: “If you
have seen Me, you have seen the Father.”
To put it even more plainly by looking at
Jesus, His life and ministry, we can clearly
see the attributes of God exemplified. We
see the love, compassion, care, power, and
presence, clearly demonstrated in Jesus. He
was and is “God with Us.” Try to grasp that
thought. The God of the Heavens with us!
This is not something we accomplished by
our own power or works. It is God’s
miraculous gift of love.
“For God loved the world in this way: He
gave His one and only Son, so that everyone
who believes in Him will not perish but have
eternal life.” John 3:16
Once upon a time people searched for ways
to please God. But all God requires is
acceptance of His Gift by faith.
“Now without faith it is impossible to please
God, since the one who draws near to Him
must believe He exists and that He rewards
those who seek Him.” Hebrews 11:1
This Christmas, in awe and wonder receive
the Gift of God with us!
Blessed by you…Bro. Sherman
