Ephesians 2:8: For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God,
Paul once again reminds us that we owe our salvation entirely to the undeserved favor of God. Of all the blessings that God has rained down on me, it is the gift of salvation that I am most thankful. I know my sins. I know there aren’t enough good deeds that I can do to wash away those sins. Only the blood of Jesus Christ can and that’s what I believe.
John MacArthur wrote: “Church membership, baptism, confirmation, giving to charity, and being a good neighbor have no power to bring salvation. Nor does taking Communion, keeping the Ten Commandments, or living by the Sermon on the Mount. The only thing a person can do that will have any part in salvation is to exercise faith in what Jesus Christ has done for him.”
It’s been said: “Grace is God’s part, faith is ours.” Two thousand years ago God did His part by sacrificing His only begotten on the cross as an atonement for our sin. I can do nothing that will add to what Jesus has done. I must accept what He is enough to give right-standing before a Holy God. I and do what about you?
The consequences of rejecting God’s gift of salvation is spelled out in John 3:17-18: For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
Let’s pray:
Oh, Holy Heavenly Father:
I thank you so much that You loved us so much You sent Your Son to pay the blood-price for us. Your grace is amazing. That you would sacrifice so much for a wretch like me. Lord, I know there is nothing I can do to add to what Jesus did on the cross. I accept your gift of salvation through faith and faith alone. Thank You, Lord, thank You.
In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
