Galatians 6:2: Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.
This is an encouraging verse to end this month of mediations on. All people have burdens that they carry, to include physical ailment, mental disorder, family crisis, unemployment and a host of other things. And, no Christian is exempted from burdens because of their relationship with God through Jesus Christ.
The duty of bearing each other’s burdens isn’t a suggestion, but a command. When we bear each other’s burden we fulfill the law of Christ which is stated in John 13:34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. So when are bearing each other’s burdens we are demonstrating Christ-like love.
John MacArthur writes: Prayer is the most powerful weapon believers have in conquering sin and opposing Satan, and nothing helps a brother carry his burdens as much as prayer for him and with him.
Let’s pray:
Lord,
We thank you that you give us others to help us with our burdens. We ask forgiveness for when we fail to help carry the burdens of others. Give us new opportunities to show the love of Jesus by helping those around us who are burdened.
We pray these things in Jesus name, Amen.
