Psalm 106:1: Praise the Lord! Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever.
God is good, all the time. In the Gospel of Mark, Jesus said there is none good, but God, (Mark 10:18). James in his epistle wrote that all good and perfect things come from God, (James 1:17). So we need to thank God for all the good things in our lives because they come from him.
The last part of the verse speaks of God’s enduring mercy. We don’t see a lot of mercy these days in our cancel culture. But, God not only shows us mercy, He has enduring mercy, an ongoing mercy. God’s greatest act of mercy was shown on Golgotha hill and reflected in the old hymn, At Calvary with the words: Mercy there was great, and grace was free, Pardon there was multiplied to me, There my burdened soul found liberty, At Calvary.
And as the writer of Hebrews reminds us: Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. (Hebrew 4:16).
Let’s pray:
Lord,
Today we boldly come before your throne of grace because we are a people in trouble, Lord and we seek Your grace, mercy in our time of need. We pray for peace in our land this election day. We pray for wise leaders. We know everything good comes from You and we thank you for it. We know regardless of the outcome of an election You are still on your throne and you appoint all things for Your glory.
We pray in Jesus name. Amen.
