Luke 6:37-38: Judge not, and you shall not be judged. Condemn not, and you shall not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven. 38 Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.”
In these two verses Jesus gives Christians four commands to live by that will really separate us from the world. The first, is not to judge, with the reminder that the standard by which judge others will be applied to ourselves.
The second, not to condemn is similar to the first, but with more finality attached to it.
The third command is to forgive. We are reminded that if we want to be forgiven then we must forgive others. Jesus said: For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. (Matthew 6:14-15)
And, lastly we are to give generously. We are reminded that you can’t out give God. He will bless us until our cup runs over.
Let’s pray:
Heavenly Father,
We thank you for these commandments from Luke’s Gospel that guide us in living out Your will in a chaotic world that needs to see You. We thank you that you choose to work through us to show others how they too may have a life of peace. Thank you for Your forgiveness.
I pray these things in Jesus name, amen.
