John 10:10 (ESV): The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.
The “I” in this verse of course is Jesus. The abundant life He speaks of I is life eternal. To many folks believe that eternity begins at the moment of death. It doesn’t. It begins this side of the grave. Living abundantly isn’t about material possessions, but a life lived in Shalom (peace). Peace with God. Paul to the Romans: Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. (Romans 5:1)
Faith is what brings us peace with God. Faith in what? Faith that Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sins. He was the sin sacrifice that satisfied the wrath of God. Nothing we can do can add to what Christ did on the cross. This is how God reconciles us back to Himself in an eternal relationship. Do you believe this?
If you do then you know when we have peace with God it brings peace to everything else in our lives, despite the chaos of our culture and the times in which we live. The Bible says: And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Phil. 4:7) That is something for which we can be truly thankful.
Let’s Pray:
Holy Heavenly,
Thank you so much that You sent Your Son to give life eternal. We are thankful for the life of abundant peace we can live when we are in relationship with you. Forgive us when we fail and become upset and anxious about the chaos of our culture. Strengthen our faith, hold us close and let us feel your presence and the peace that simply comes from being in Your presence.
I pray these things in Jesus name, amen.
